(CNN) - FBI Director James Comey told a Senate hearing on Thursday the agency considers the investigation of the deadly Benghazi terror attack among its "highest priorities."

Feds cringe at possibility of more forced budget cuts

Washington (CNN) – The leadership of federal law enforcement agencies is bracing for some real pain/tough choices if forced budget cuts are implemented again next year.

The Obama administration’s ongoing standoff with Republicans over Obamacare and the budget means forced budget cuts from the so-called “sequestration” will be likely. The administration is pushing Congress to find a long-term solution that would restore some of the sequestered cuts.

FIRST ON CNN: New FBI director to face GOP heat for Benghazi investigation

Washington (CNN) - Labeling the Obama administration's investigation of the September 2012 Benghazi attacks "simply unacceptable," eight Republican lawmakers are demanding more aggressive steps from the new FBI Director James Comey and asking that he brief Congress within 30 days.

"It has been more than 10 months since the attacks," the GOP lawmakers said in a draft of a letter to Comey obtained by CNN. "We appear to be no closer to knowing who was responsible today than we were in the early weeks following the attack. This is simply unacceptable."

Comey moves gingerly toward Senate confirmation

Washington (CNN) - His confirmation as the new FBI director seemingly secure, James Comey gave a master class Tuesday on agreeing with his Senate questioners while mostly avoiding firm commitments on pressing issues of national security and law enforcement that he will face.

Time after time, Comey responded to Senate Judiciary Committee members by saying he lacked sufficient information to offer a detailed answer.
