Poll: McAuliffe maintains advantage in Virginia gubernatorial race
Washington (CNN) - The Republican and Democratic candidates vying to become Virginia's next governor both addressed the recent government shutdown on the campaign trail, but a new poll indicates the issue had little to no impact on the race.
The Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, less than two weeks before Election day, shows Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe with a 46%-39% advantage over Republican rival Ken Cuccinelli, with Libertarian Party candidate Robert Sarvis hitting the double digits at 10%.

Paul Ryan: HHS secretary should step down over Obamacare
(CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan on Tuesday joined a growing list of Republicans who want Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to step down over rampant problems in the launch of Obamacare’s HealthCare.gov.
The 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee was on a conference call with reporters, helping fellow Republican and Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli make the case against a Medicaid expansion in the state championed by Cuccinelli’s opponent, Democrat Terry McAuliffe.

McAuliffe getting big-name outside help in Virginia governor's race
(CNN) - As the former head of the Democratic National Committee running in one of only two governors races this year, Virginia Democrat Terry McAuliffe has attracted a lot of outsized attention, with a million dollars supporting his candidacy from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and scheduled campaign events with former President Bill Clinton.
A businessman and close friend and adviser of both Bill and Hillary Clinton, McAuliffe is currently leading his opponent, Republican state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, by single digits, in the latest polls. The two will face off at the ballot in two weeks.

Cuccinelli: Obama should fire Sebelius

Washington (CNN) - Republican gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli of Virginia joined a host of other Republicans calling for President Barack Obama to fire Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for the rocky enrollment process for Obamacare.
"If President Obama is serious about cleaning up the mess he's created, he'll immediately fire Secretary Sebelius and call on Congress to pass legislation to delay the individual mandate," Cuccinelli said at a campaign event Monday, according to prepared remarks.

(CNN) - The right-leaning Richmond Times-Dispatch decided to endorse no candidate in the Virginia gubernatorial race, a little more than two weeks before Election Day.
"The major-party candidates have earned the citizenry's derision," the editorial board wrote. "The third-party alternative has run a more exemplary race yet does not qualify as a suitable option. We cannot in good conscience endorse a candidate for governor."

Virginia governor candidate blasts Obamacare in GOP weekly address
Ken Cuccinelli, the Republican candidate in Virginia's 2013 gubernatorial race, gave the GOP weekly address on Saturday and used the opportunity to speak out against the Affordable Care Act.
"Obamacare represents one of the largest and most reckless expansions of government in the more than 200-year history of our nations," Cuccinelli said. "I believe that Obamacare is unconstitutional."

In an interview this week with conservative news organization Newsmax, Cuccinelli responded to criticism about a year-old video in which he said God would impose judgment on the United States for allowing abortion.

Poll: Shutdown affecting race for Virginia governor
(CNN) - With three weeks to go until Election Day in Virginia, a new poll indicates Democrat Terry McAuliffe holding a single digit advantage over Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in the battle for governor.
And the survey, by the Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, also suggests that the partial government shutdown is hurting Cuccinelli more than McAuliffe. Virginia is home to a large number of federal government and defense industry workers, many of whom have been impacted by the two-week long shutdown.

Washington (CNN) - With a libertarian third-party candidate threatening to spoil his chances of winning the Virginia governorship, Republican nominee Ken Cuccinelli received a welcome endorsement Friday from the desk of Ron Paul.
Paul, the former Texas congressman and the guiding light of libertarians everywhere, endorsed Cuccinelli in a letter to the Virginia attorney general.

McAuliffe remains up in latest Virginia gubernatorial polls
(CNN) - With less than four weeks to go until Election Day in Virginia, a new poll indicates Democrat Terry McAuliffe holds a slight eight percentage point lead over Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in the battle for governor.
According to a Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday morning, 47% of likely voters in Virginia's November 5 election say they back McAuliffe, a businessman and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee who's making his second bid for governor. Thirty-nine percent of those questioned say they support Cuccinelli, with Libertarian Party candidate Robert Sarvis polling at eight percent, and five percent unsure.
