Spilled milk: Haley dismisses Colbert Senate interest

(CNN) – The swell of online support for Republican South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to appoint comedy show host Stephen Colbert to her state's open U.S. Senate seat hasn't gone unnoticed by the Palmetto State Republican, who pointed out one hangup on her Facebook Friday.

"Stephen, thank you for your interest in South Carolina's U.S. Senate seat and for the thousands of tweets you and your fans sent me," Haley wrote, before delivering one piece of archive material that could sink Colbert's chances.

Nikki Haley will appoint DeMint successor 'quickly'

(CNN) - South Carolina's Republican governor said Friday she was working quickly to appoint a replacement to retiring Sen. Jim DeMint's seat in the U.S. Senate, writing she was looking to put a similar-minded conservative in the Upper Chamber.

"Appointing a new member of the U.S. Senate is a solemn duty, and I take this responsibility with utmost seriousness. I will make this decision in a manner that is thoughtful and dignified, but also quickly," Gov. Nikki Haley wrote Friday.

Haley a Nazi? Democrat not backing down from analogy

The Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party is refusing to apologize after he compared his state’s Republican Gov. Nikki Haley to Adolf Hitler’s mistress Eva Braun.

Dick Harpootlian, a tart-tongued Columbia attorney known for his off-color and sometimes inflammatory rhetoric, made the analogy after Haley showed up at the Democratic National Convention earlier this week to offer a GOP response to the proceedings in Charlotte.

With convention speakers named, Romney's VP list appears to narrow

(CNN) - Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley - three women rumored to be under consideration as Mitt Romney's running mate - will have high profile speaking roles at the Republican National Convention, organizers will announce Monday.

The naming of the three women most likely means that Romney's campaign is no longer vetting their backgrounds, if they ever did.

No apologies from woman who bashed piñata of governor

(CNN) - She took a baseball bat to a piñata bearing the likeness of South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, but when asked about the swings on Thursday, Donna Dewitt said she had no "regrets," and that "it could have been any face on that piñata."

"I certainly didn't have any hostilities so it wasn't intended to be hostile," she said Wednesday on CNN's "John King, USA." "My husband and I have been married 44 years. There are times you could have probably put his face on it, and he feels the same way about me. It was a piñata."

Haley on Romney's 'golden bullet'

Washington (CNN) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said Thursday the leading Republican presidential candidate was carrying a "golden bullet" to connect with women voters.

Speaking on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," the Palmetto State Republican said Mitt Romney's wife Ann, along with the candidate himself, would need to answer women with concerns about his platform. Polls released in the past week show Romney trailing President Barack Obama by a large margin among female voters.
