(CNN) - Democratic governors on Tuesday selected new leadership for the Democratic Governors Association. Gov. Peter Shumlin of Vermont will succeed Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley as chairman of the organization, while O'Malley becomes the group's finance chairman, the DGA announced.
Those selections and others were expected by Democratic insiders. The DGA works to recruit and support Democratic candidates for governor and assists Democratic incumbents running for re-election.

(CNN) - Democrat Peter Shumlin was officially elected governor of Vermont Thursday in a joint session of the state legislature. He received 145 votes compared to 28 votes for the Republican nominee, incumbent Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie.
Though Dubie conceded the race shortly after the November 2010 election, the Vermont state constitution requires that the legislature elect the governor, lieutenant governor, and other statewide officials if no candidate receives a majority of the votes.

Racine's campaign manager confirmed to CNN that Racine conceded the race Friday and endorsed Shumlin, who currently serves as President Pro Tempore of Vermont's state senate.
Shumlin now faces GOP nominee Brian Dubie, the current lieutenant governor.
