Kissing congressman reverses decision, announces plan to seek re-election in Louisiana

(CNN) - Rep. Vance McAllister said Monday he will run for re-election in November despite previously announcing he would not seek another term in Louisiana's 5th Congressional District.

McAllister – who is married with children – was caught on video kissing an aide in his office, sparking calls for the Republican congressman to step down. Three weeks after the video was posted by a local newspaper, he announced he would not seek re-election, only to reverse that decision on Monday.

Kissing congressman won't seek re-election

(CNN) - Republican Rep. Vance McAllister, who was caught on video kissing an aide in his office, will not run for re-election in November.

"As I've said before, there's no doubt I've made a mistake. I've failed those I care most about and let down the people who elected me to represent them. I take full responsibility for this personal failure and I'm truly sorry for what I've done. I have taken this time to reconcile with my wife and kids and I'm forever grateful for their support and forgiveness," said McAllister in a statement Monday.

McAllister urged to resign by top Republicans

(CNN) - Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana called Thursday on Rep. Vance McAllister to resign after surveillance video surfaced showing the married Louisiana congressman kissing an aide in his office.

"Congressman McAllister's behavior is an embarrassment and he should resign," he said in a statement. "He says he wants privacy to work on his issues with his family. The best way to get privacy and work on putting his family back together is to resign from Congress."

First on CNN: Husband on kissing congressman: ‘He has wrecked my life’

(CNN) - The husband of the woman caught making out with Rep. Vance McAllister said the Louisiana Republican destroyed his life and marriage.

"I'm just freaking devastated by the whole deal, man. I loved my wife so much. I cannot believe this. I cannot freaking believe it. I feel like I'm going to wake up here in a minute and this is all going to be a bad nightmare," Heath Peacock told CNN Tuesday.

Married congressman 'sorry' after seen kissing staffer in video

(CNN) - Newly elected Rep. Vance McAllister asked for forgiveness from God, his family and his constituents after a local newspaper published what it said was surveillance video of the married Louisiana Republican making out with a female staffer.

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness. I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your (sic) a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed,” McAllister said in a statement.

Vance McAllister wins special Congressional election

(CNN) - A Congressional seat from Louisiana will remain in Republican hands - although that was never in question.

With 99% of the vote in, the state's Secretary of State announced a winner in a special election for Louisiana's 5th district that pitted Republican against Republican.
