Why it took Obama so long to address his 'no strategy' comments
WASHINGTON (CNN) - It took five days for President Barack Obama to address the controversy he caused by saying "we don't have a strategy yet" to defeat ISIS.
Wednesday, the President attempted to clarify what he meant by specifying that he was referring to ISIS inside Syria while highlighting the U.S. strategy in Iraq of airstrikes to weaken the extremist terror group that calls itself the Islamic State.
Biden's warning to ISIS militants: 'We will follow them to the gates of hell'
(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday issued a sharp warning to ISIS militants, saying after the United States is done grieving the death of two American journalists, their killers will have to answer for their actions.
"They should know we will follow them to the gates of hell until they are brought to justice," he forcefully told an audience at an event on the New Hampshire-Maine border. "Because hell is where they will reside. Hell is where they will reside."

Mitch McConnell's campaign manager steps down
(CNN) - A little more than two months before Election Day, Sen. Mitch McConnell's campaign manager, Jesse Benton, stepped down Friday, resigning amid a long-brewing controversy involving Benton's ties to Ron Paul's presidential bid in 2012.
"With a heavy heart, I offered Sen. McConnell my resignation this afternoon and he reluctantly accepted," Benton said in a statement issued by McConnell's campaign. "Effective Saturday, August 30th, I will no longer be the 'Team Mitch' campaign manager."

At a Dallas event hosted by the conservative group Americans for Prosperity, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky ripped into the President, saying it was an example of a lack of leadership.
Judge dismisses Chris McDaniel challenge
(CNN) - A Mississippi judge has tossed out state Sen. Chris McDaniel's challenge to that state's June 24 GOP primary runoff results, ending another chapter in one of the most bitterly contested U.S. Senate primaries in recent memory and bringing longtime Sen. Thad Cochran one step closer to another term in Washington.
Special Judge Hollis McGehee ruled that McDaniel waited too long to file his challenge with state Republican Party. McDaniel filed the challenge 41 days after the election; McGehee said that under state law the challenge had to be filed within 20 days.
First on CNN: Cruz returning to New Hampshire next weekend
(CNN) - Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is heading back to New Hampshire next weekend. It will be the third visit this year by the freshman Republican senator and potential 2016 presidential contender to the state that holds the first primary in the race for the White House.
According to a source close to the senator, Cruz will speak at the Hillsborough County Republican Committee Primary Dinner on September 6. Another potential 2016 contender, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, will also give remarks at the dinner.
