Bachmann gets a SuperPAC

(CNN) - An independent organization established to support Rep. Michele Bachmann's run for president started accepting donations Thursday, according to co-founder Bob Harris.

"Keep Conservatives United," the so-called SuperPAC launched approximately a month ago, plans to run ads pointing to the record of the Minnesota representative, while criticizing Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is expected to jump into the race for the White House.

Perry: I'm 'supposed to' run for president

(CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry has decided he wants to be president and received advice from former President George W. Bush before reaching his conclusion, according to a new interview with TIME's Mark Halperin.

The longest-serving Lone Star governor, who has not officially announced a bid for the White House, said he would not be "this far into the process," unless he wanted to run for president in 2012.

Jeb Bush, Jr. backs Huntsman

(CNN) - Jeb Bush, Jr. endorsed Jon Huntsman for president Wednesday at a press conference in Miami.

In addition to the formal endorsement, Bush, the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, said he will become National Chairman of GenH, the former Utah governor's youth and young professionals outreach program.

New wave of Wisconsin recall elections are here

(CNN) - The fallout from the Wisconsin saga over collective bargaining rights that ignited in February continues Tuesday with six recall elections that potentially hold national political implications in the bellwether state.

Six incumbent Republican state senators are targeted in the contests that are in part a referendum on GOP Gov. Scott Walker and the target of increased political advertising and spending.

New wave of Wisconsin recall elections coming Tuesday

(CNN) - The fallout from the Wisconsin saga over collective bargaining rights that ignited in February continues Tuesday with six recall elections.

Six incumbent Republican state senators are targeted in the contests. Republicans hope to retain the majority in the state Senate, which they currently hold 19-14. Democrats are angling for GOP-held seats to capture control of the upper chamber.

Trump: If I were treasury secretary...

(CNN) - Donald Trump responded Monday to Mike Huckabee's suggestion that he serve as treasury secretary, predicting who would be hurt most by the potential appointment.

"I'll tell you, it would be very painful for China, it would be very painful for OPEC, it would be very painful for many of the countries that are just ripping us off," the real estate mogul said on Fox News.

Romney knocks Obama's S&P 'failure'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney will continue his attacks on President Barack Obama at events Monday, hitting him over the recent U.S. downgrade from Standard & Poor's.

Campaigning in New Hampshire, the Republican presidential frontrunner will tout his own history with S&P as governor of Massachusetts, when the state received credit rating upgrades, according to the campaign.

Axelrod laments 'tea party downgrade'

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's chief re-election strategist on Sunday blamed Standard & Poor's downgrade of the United States' credit rating on tea party conservatives who made raising the federal debt ceiling a political issue.

"This is essentially a tea party downgrade," David Axelrod told the CBS program "Face the Nation." "The tea party brought us to the brink of a default."

S&P targeted by top economic voices

Washington (CNN) - Two top financial voices from different sides of the aisle voiced outrage on Sunday over Standard & Poor's downgrade of the United States’ credit rating, but disagreed on whom to put the blame.

Steve Forbes, CEO of Forbes, Inc. and a former Republican presidential candidate called S&P's downgrade from AAA to AA+ Friday, "an outrageous move" given that the government can still pay the interest and principal on its bonds.

Gov. Brown warns of tough 2012 fight

(CNN) - California Gov. Jerry Brown said the United States is at a crossroads and faces a potentially “calamitous” election in 2012.

As demonstrated by the recent debate in Washington over the debt ceiling, the United States will decline if Democrats and Republicans are unable to compromise, Brown said in an interview broadcast Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
