(CNN) - They may seem like a bit of an odd couple - but Sen. Rand Paul met on Friday with top donors to Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign.
Paul, the first term Republican senator from Kentucky who's seriously considering a 2016 GOP bid for the White House, is known as someone who hails from the conservative/tea party wing of the party, and who also enjoys strong support from libertarians who backed his father's three campaigns for president. And Romney, considered the GOP establishment candidate in 2012, was never truly embraced by the grassroots.

"The stakes are very high in this election because Washington's spending is out of control," says Mitt Romney in a new campaign commercial, sounding very much like a candidate running for office.
(CNN) - President Barack Obama's re-election team is going up with a new campaign commercial in key battleground states that pushes back against Republican attacks over his statement that the private sector's "doing fine."
The TV ad starts with the president expressing empathy on the economy, saying "I've talked to folks, in rope lines, in coffee shops, people who've been out of work. You can tell it wears on them."
