Another senior House Republican announces retirement

Washington (CNN) - Republican Rep. Doc Hastings of Washington state announced Thursday that he'll retire at the end of this year rather than run for re-election in November.

Hastings, who currently serves as the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, said in a statement he was stepping down after 10 terms to allow someone new to represent Washington's 4th Congressional District.

California GOP Rep. Gary Miller to retire

Washington (CNN) - California Republican Rep. Gary Miller announced Wednesday he would not run for re-election in November, giving Democrats a good chance to pick up his seat in the midterm election.

"It has been a great honor to spend so many years in public service, striving to make a difference for Southern California families. While there is still a lot of work to be done, it is now time for me to pass the baton.  I will not seek re-election to Congress at the end of this term," Miller said in a statement.

Sessions on primary challenge: 'These things happen'

(CNN) - A conservative activist who's challenging a top House Republican Wednesday landed an endorsement from a leading national tea party organization.

But that doesn't seem to be fazing the congressman, Rep. Pete Sessions.
