
(CNN) - Washington firefighters who stood with President Barack Obama at a public appearance Tuesday are now under investigation by their department.
The firefighters joined the president at a news conference to illustrate the impact forced spending cuts would have on police officers, firefighters and other emergency responders.

(CNN) - Responding to a question at Tuesday's presidential debate that referred to reintroducing the Clinton-era assault weapons ban that expired in 2004, Republican candidate Mitt Romney said that it was already illegal to own those kinds of guns in the United States.
The claim: "Yeah, I'm not in favor of new pieces of legislation on - on guns and taking guns away or making certain guns illegal. We, of course, don't want to have automatic weapons, and that's already illegal in this country to have automatic weapons," Romney said.

Washington (CNN) - The family of the late President Dwight Eisenhower continued to express disapproval Wednesday for the design of a memorial commissioned to honor the 34th U.S. president in Washington
In a posted letter, Susan Eisenhower, President Eisenhower's granddaughter, expressed the family's gratitude for recent changes by architect Frank Gehry, but opposed the memorial's expansive modern construction and asked that more time be given to the process.
